The European Commission (DG SANTE), on November 20th 2017, launched the First Clinical Patient Management System. It’s a web-based application aimed at supporting ERNs in improving the diagnosis and treatment of rare or low prevalence complex diseases across national borders of Member States in Europe. By providing tools for collaboration and virtual consultations CPMS enables health professionals to enrol patients using comprehensive data models. Health professionals can therefore use the CPMS to collaborate actively and share data on patient within and across ERNs.
The system is important not just for diagnosis and treatment but also for future clinical research.
In the next few months, to get acquainted with the capabilities and features of the CPMS, each ERN will proceed with the enrolment of the first patients and the launch of the first virtual panels. MetabERN has foreseen to have at least 5 real case patient consultations by late February 2018.
