Recordati advanced course on liver and liver-kidney transplantation for inherited metabolic disorders

Recordati Rare Disease Foundation is hosting a course on liver & liver-kidney transplantation for inherited metabolic disorders in London form 12 to 14 June 2025.

Liver transplantation, either alone or combined with kidney transplantation, has become an established therapy options for some inherited metabolic diseases. There are now more reports with long-term follow-ups for several disorders and the potential knowledge that earlier transplantation is superior. More recently, indications are expanding to include disorders in which organ transplantation was previously thought to be contraindicated. There is more knowledge regarding optimal perioperative management and monitoring post-transplantation.

The learning objectives of the course are:

– To consolidate knowledge around indications for transplantation in Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMDs) and the pre-transplant assessment process.

– To standardise protocols for peri-operative management.

– To review current literature and long-term outcomes.

– To review long term complications and monitoring post transplantation.

– To review novel and expanding indications for transplantation in IMDs (MNGIE, ethylmalonic encephalopathy, mitochondrial disorders).

– To reach consensus on indications, timing, peri and post-operative management.

The course addresses paediatric and adult metabolic, hepatology and renal specialists with expertise or involvement in transplantation for metabolic disorders. The course is structured as interactive discussions amongst professionals involved in the care of patients who are being considered for or who have undergone solid organ transplantation.

The registration form should be completed online and submitted with an English curriculum vitae.

The deadline for registration is the 14th of April 2025.
