Dr Terry Derks main domains of research are liver glycogen storage diseases (GSD), disorders of mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation and neonatal screening. International sharing of knowledge and data is crucial for patients with rare diseases.

His international orientation is reflected by his professional education, international participation in scientific conferences and meetings of patients’ organizations, and coordination of the Summer School Pediatrics at University of Groningen institute for international biomedical students.

During the IGSD2017 conference in Groningen, Dr Derks initiated the James Lind Alliance (JLA) Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) for liver GSD.
