Miguel Gago graduated in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University and specialized in Neurology at the Neurology Department of the Hospital São João, in Porto, Portugal. As a Neurologist, he has specialised in Dementia, Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation, having completed a post-graduation at the Neurozentrum in Kiel, Germany.
Miguel Gago is Neurologist and Vice-Director of the Reference Center on Lysosomal Storage Disorders (LSD) of the Hospital Senhora da Oliveira – Guimarães, Portugal, currently following over 250 patients with LSD.
Miguel Gago has been the Coordinator of the Academic Center of the Hospital Senhora da Oliveira – Guimarães since 2014.
He is a member of several national and international scientific societies in the field of Movement Disorders, having held the position of treasurer, from 2012 to 2015, and of President of the Portuguese Society of Movement Disorders (SPDMov) from 2015 to 2017.
Miguel Gago was a clinical tutor of Neurology/Neurosurgery in the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University between 2007 and 2011 and since then he has been a clinical tutor and invited lecturer of Clinical Neurosciences in the School of Medicine of Minho University.
His main research interest is gait and postural control in neurodegenerative diseases. He is presently conducting research in the Life and Health Sciences Institute of Minho University and the Algoritmi Center of the Faculty of Engineering of Minho University, in the context of his doctoral thesis.
He was also principal investigator and co-investigator in studies and clinical trials in Alzheimer Dementia, Huntington Disease and Parkinson Disease.
He received an honourable mention Award from BIAL® in 2010, along with the Deep Brain Stimulation Team of Hospital São João.
Miguel Gago has published several scientific papers and has been an ad-hoc reviewer for several international journals, and associated editor for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
