What is rare in rare? #9 Nataliya Foundation

In honour of Rare Disease Day 2026, we have invited our partner patient organisations, representing a diverse range of rare metabolic conditions, to share their unique perspectives and reflections using three words in response to the thought-provoking question “What is rare in rare?”

Behind every diagnosis of a rare disease there is a unique individual, a supportive family, a broader community impacted by the challenges of living with these conditions.

The three key words from our partner organization Nataliya Foundation are: Treatment. Accessibility. Equality.

Treatment signifies hope for a better quality of life. Yet for many individuals with rare conditions, available treatment options may be limited, or still in research stages.

Accessibility refers to the critical importance of connecting with the right medical specialists, obtaining an early and accurate diagnosis, and gaining access to innovative therapies and holistic care, regardless of geographical location, socioeconomic status, or healthcare system disparities.

Equality asserts that every individual, irrespective of how rare their condition may be, deserves the same rights to timely diagnosis, effective treatment, and comprehensive care.
