The Policlinico plays a reference role within national and international networks that highlight its distinctive activities. It is, in fact, a reference point for complex pregnancies and births (premature, twins, neonatal pathologies) treated at the Mangiagalli Clinic, whose emergency room is the most active in Lombardy. As the headquarters of the North Italy Transplant Program (NITp), since 1972 the Policlinico has enabled over 32,000 organ transplants, with one-year post-transplant success rates exceeding 90%. It also stands out as a regional reference center for the treatment of rare diseases for over 260 adult and child pathologies. Every year, on average, about 3,000,000 outpatient services, about 46,000 hospitalizations, and almost 2 million diagnostic tests are performed. It is also at the forefront in studying the relationship between the living and working environment and health. It is a university center and offers, in addition to the master’s degree program in Medicine, nine health care degrees (Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Care, Obstetrics, Audiometric Techniques, Hearing Aid Techniques, Biomedical Laboratory Techniques and Medical Radiology, Imaging and Radiation Therapy Techniques) and the Master’s Degree program in Preventive Health Professions.
