The second webinar of our series “Brain Metabolism Dialogues” is taking place on Monday 24 March at 17.00 CET. Prof. Fanny Mochel from the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris will be the speaker of the webinar titled “Dialogue Between Physics and Metabolism in Brain Functions”.
Molecular biology has transformed cellular biology, identifying genes linked to neurological disorders. However, this molecular-centered approach to brain functions in health and diseases has overridden other central aspects of cellular biology such as physical processes that regulate cellular homeostasis and are affected in all pathological conditions. Mechanotransduction links mechanical stimuli to biochemical activity, playing a key role in cell function. Organelles like the ER, Golgi, and mitochondria sense mechanical forces, and impact cellular trafficking – now recognised as a major Inherited Metabolic Disorder (IMD) category.
This session will focus on the connections between physics and metabolism that could provide new insights into the pathophysiology and phenotypic expression of IMDs. As knowledge in mechanobiology continues to expand, exploring these connections may also contribute to the development of novel therapeutic approaches within the emerging field of mechanomedicine.
The “Brain Metabolism Dialogues” is a joint initiative between MetabERN and the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM).
Deadline for registration: 24 March 2024, 13.00 CET.
