Under the auspices of the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council and in cooperation with the authorities of the Basque Country, the city of Bilbao (Spain) will host the conference “Rare Diseases and European Reference Networks”. The event will take place in the Euskalduna Conference Centre, in Bilbao on 10-11 October 2023.

The conference will review the state of play and address some of the main challenges facing the EU policy framework on rare diseases and European Reference Networks. Organizational models and good practices in health and social care, together with the remaining research challenges, will be the main topics in the field of rare diseases. In addition, the integration of ERNs into EU health systems and their role in generating, exchanging, and applying knowledge will be discussed.

A side event on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), addressing the actions at the European level, the role of patients’ organizations, and the state of play of research, specifically referred to ALS, will start on 10 October pm.

Interpreting will be provided from/to Spanish, German, English, French, and Basque; web streaming in English and Spanish will be available.
