Autophagy Post

Autophagy in Brain Metabolism Webinar

The “Brain Metabolism Dialogues” webinar series is back! The upcoming webinar, which will take place on Monday, 15 December 2025, at 5 p.m. CET, will focus on a specific cell trafficking biological function, autophagy. This session will offer an integrated view of autophagy, a fundamental cellular recycling process, and its crucial relationship with brain metabolism.

The session will first establish the core cell biology—the machinery, regulation, and mechanics—that defines autophagic sequestration and degradation. The focus will then shift to the metabolic role of autophagy, detailing how this pathway sustains cellular energy balance, regulates nutrient sensing, and impacts major metabolic circuits within the central nervous system. Finally, we will explore the critical clinical relevance of autophagic dysfunction, examining specific brain pathologies where altered autophagy contributes to neurodegeneration and disease progression.

Keynote speaker: Prof. Antonio Zorzano

Deadline for registration: 15 December 2025, 13:00 Central European Time (CET).

The “Brain Metabolism Dialogues” webinar series is a joint initiative of the European Reference Network on Hereditary Metabolic Disorders (MetabERN) and the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM).
