Achieving Equity and Innovation in Newborn Screening and in Familial Hypercholesterolemia Paediatric Screening across Europe
An accompanying event of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU: Achieving Equity and Innovation in Newborn Screening and in Familial Hypercholesterolemia Paediatric Screening
Monday, 11th October 2021 from 9:00 to 16:00 CET
Under its EU presidency, Slovenia is spearheading an initiative designed to enhance cooperation and equity in provision of newborn and FH paediatric screening within the EU.
For some rare disorders, early detection offered by newborn screening can be life changing and is able to prevent long term disability or even death. However, there are significant differences between individual members states and their newborn screening programs.
Globally, 30 million individuals live with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), which leads to premature morbidity due to atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. The lack of general awareness of FH has resulted in significant underdiagnosis and undertreatment of persons affected by FH. Nonetheless, FH paediatric screening has the potential to effectively detect this inherited disorder.
Join the accompanying event of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU “Achieving Equity and Innovation in Newborn Screening and in Familial Hypercholesterolemia Paediatric Screening across Europe”. Key participants of this virtual technical meeting will include medical experts, policy makers and patients’ representatives.
