SSIEM 2026 Annual Symposium in Helsinki

The Annual Symposium of the Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism will be held in Helsinki, Finland, from 25 to 28 August 2026. This year’s theme of the symposium will be the “Next Generation Metabolic Medicine”, inviting participants to reflect on where research in the IMD field is heading and how today’s science shapes tomorrow’s practice.

The “next generation” concept serves as a reminder of the pregnancies and newborns directly impacted by inborn errors of metabolism. It also underscores the responsibility to educate future healthcare professionals dedicated to serving these patients. In light of this, the organising committee has designed a program that is both visionary and practical, combining cutting-edge research with opportunities for learning and collaboration.

Renowned experts will be sharing their insights, enriching the symposium with their knowledge and experience. This year, there has been an increase in the number of oral presentations, and physical posters will be displayed throughout the event to stimulate discussion and exchange.

Face-to-face interaction remains one of the most valuable aspects of the symposium, fostering meaningful discussions, new collaborations, and ultimately contributing to the improvement of lives affected by inborn errors of metabolism.

MetabERN is grateful to the local organising committee for providing the opportunity to host a plenary session for network members and dedicated sessions for MetabERN’s Subnetworks on 24 August 2026. These sessions will allow members to share activity updates and stay informed about the network’s latest developments.
