Esmeralda Rodrigues
Esmeralda Rodrigues has graduated in medicine in 1993 at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto. Residency in Paediatrics in Pediatrics Department of Unidade Local de Saúde de São João, E.P.E. (ULS São João). The interest in inborn errors of metabolism lead to differentiation, working wirh Elisa Leão Teles, the founder of Metabolic Unit of ULS São João, and performing a specific formation during 3 months with Jaak Jaeken (MD, PhD) in Leuven, Belgium. Qualification as Paediatrician /National Board Certification in Paediatrics in 2001. She worked as general pediatrics and in neonatology in a central hospital, keeping always the interest and formation in the specific area of Inherited Metabolic Diseases (IMD). In 2006 is integrated in the central team of the Metabolic Unit of ULS São João. In 2012 she concluded the national specific post-graduate program of specialization / formation of two years, on Inherited Metabolic Diseases, recognized and approved by national entities, during which she made a short internship in the unit of metabolic diseases of the Hospital of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. She has experience in the different fields of metabolic disorders, collaborating in clinical trials specifically in LSD. She is author or co-author of more than hundred scientific communications and has published clinical and scientific papers. Collaborates with Medical school in pre-graduate and post-graduate formation. Member of international and national scientific societies for IMD. Co-founder and member of the Board of the Inherited Metabolic Diseases Section of the Portuguese Society of Paediatrics (SDHM.SPP), since 2013. She is the Coordinator of Reference Centre for Inborn Errors of Metabolism of Unidade Local de Saúde de São João, E.P.E., Porto, recognized by national entities in 2016.
Esmeralda Rodrigues has the degree in Medicine by the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto since 1993. Consultant in Pediatrics since 2016 Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM) Formation: specific training during Pediatrics residency in Metabolic Unit of Hospital S. João with Elisa Leão Teles (MD) and during 3 months with Jaak Jaeken ( MD, PhD) in Leuven, Belgium (1999). In 2009 was admitted for a recognised specific program of specialization and formation on Inherited Metabolic Diseases during two years (2009- 2011). During this program one month was spent in Hospital de Santiago de Compostela ( Spain) with Maria Luz Couce (MD, PhD). Author or co-author of more than hundred scientific communications in national and international meetings. Participate and organize different symposium and courses in IMD. Invited to conference in many meetings.
