She received her MD from the Faculty of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Doctor in Medicine by the thesis "Contributions of the TAC in partial seizures of childhood": Cum Laude. Faculty of Medicine of Seville.
I am a doctor in Medicine and Paediatrician. I have accreditation by the Spanish Association of Pediatrics in “Inborn Errors of Metabolism and Rare Diseases” and in “Neuropediatrics”.
I am an Associate Professor at the Complutense University, School of Medicine. Participated in undergraduate and graduate teaching assignments, paediatric residents and medical specialists Area, for Spanish and foreign doctors. I taught a doctorate thesis. I am the coordinator of CSUR for metabolic diseases for children and adults in “Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre”, Madrid, Spain.

- 10/1984 to 12/1987: government grants from Spanish Ministry of Education: Training of research staff in Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, Paris, France (Dept. of Medical Genetics Neuropediatrics Service, with Dr. J. Aicardi , and the Inherited Metabolic Diseases Service, with Prof. J.M. Saudubray.
- 01/1988 to 10/1988: grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: St. Luc Hospital, Catholic University of Louvain, Brussels, Belgium. In Neuropediatrics Service, with Prof. G. Lyon and the Metabolic Diseases Research Laboratory, headed by Prof. Hers and later Prof. Van Hoof.
- From 11/1989 -02/1992: government grants from Spanish Ministry of Education Hospital, for Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid, Spain.
- Since 01/02 /1992- to present: Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid, Spain. Doctor Specialist of Paediatrics. I started up the creation of the Unit of Inherited Metabolic Diseases and Mitochondrial Diseases for Paediatrics. I perform care work, and coordination of the Unit teaching and research.
- Since 04/2011 we are Reference Center for expanded neonatal metabolic screening in the southern area of Autonomous Community of Madrid and in 31/05/2012 I was appointed as a member of the Expert Advisory Committee universal screening for detection, early diagnosis and treatment of endocrine-metabolic congenital diseases of newborns in the Autonomous Community of Madrid (BOCM no. 129 of May 31, 2012 p. 17)
- In 01/09/2015 we have been designated as National Reference Center for Inborn Metabolic Diseases of children and adults (CSUR 50), of which I am the coordinator (Ministry of Health Social Services and Equality).
- In 1984 I began my research activities, in total I have been participated in 35 research projects. All projects are related to neuropediatric diseases, neurometabolic and inborn errors of metabolism.
- I collaborated in thematic research networks, REDEMETH. (NODE 22 in the study “Molecular basis of metabolic diseases” coordinated by Professor Magdalena Ugarte, and RETICS. NET. MITOESPAÑA with the “clinical-epidemiological and molecular study of diseases of mitochondrial respiratory chain in Spain”. Coordinated by Dr. Joaquín Arenas Barbero. Currently I am member collaborator of the U723 team of the Laboratory and neurometabolism mitochondrial diseases of the Instituto de Investigación 12 de Octubre, where he principal investigator is Dr. Miguel Angel Martin Casanueva (Center for Biomedical Research Network ISCIII Rare Diseases (CIBERER)). The group projects in recent years have focused mainly on different aspects of the molecular pathology of defects mitochondrial respiratory chain, studies of mitochondrial biomarkers and other projects in mitochondrial diseases.
- I have worked in international reports (83) as Spanish publications (123), communications to Spanish and International scientific meetings (138) and book chapters related with inborn of metabolism (23). I participated in the organization of national congresses, as well as moderator, and round tables, as well as various scientific committees of conferences in the field of national and international metabolic diseases, paediatric neurology and the Spanish Association of Paediatrics. I have also participated and organized training for families and patients with metabolic diseases activities. I was co-author on best scientific poster at the X National Congress of Inborn Errors of Metabolism in Barcelona, 2 September 2013, title “Diseases of the urea cycle in Spain: A series of 104 cases”.
- I am a member of several scientific societies as SSIEM (International Society of Inborn Errors of Metabolism), AEP (Spanish Society of Paediatrics), AECOM (Spanish Association for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism). I was Member of the Board of AECOM since October 2007 to September 2011.
- Patient associations have awarded us in 2012 (ACMEIM: Spanish Association of Rare Diseases-Association Castilian-Manchego Inborn Errors). Also I have awarded as coordinator of the Paediatric Unit of Rare Diseases I for increasing the participation of patients in the design of the criteria for designation of reference centres and units (Spanish Federation of rare Diseases (FEDER).
- I have active participation in commissions or groups of health care or educational interest. In one part I am responsible for diagnosis and clinical monitoring of detected cases in the Neonatal metabolic Screening Program carried out in the Community of Madrid, in the “ Universitary Hospital 12 de Octubre”. As such, I am in the working group constituted for tracking and monitoring clinical activity tracking units for these diseases in the Community of Madrid. I was part of the team of the working group that develop technical criteria for designation of Centres, Services and Units Reference (CSUR) of the National Health System (SNS) for congenital metabolic diseases in response to the request made by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality. I was designated as the coordinator of the CSUR50- Metabolic Diseases Congenital children and adults appointed by Resolution of the Minister of health, Social Services and Equality agreement of the Inter-regional Council.
