The third Italian “National Meeting on Hereditary Metabolic Diseases in Adulthood” will take place in Mestre, on 8 May 2026. The meeting is organised by the SIMMESN (Italian Society for the Study of Hereditary Metabolic Diseases and Newborn Screening) Working Group on adult metabolic medicine, in collaboration with MetabERN.
This meeting represents a crucial opportunity to address issues related to the management of inherited metabolic diseases (IMDs) in adult patients. The main objective is to raise awareness and provide concrete tools to overcome the critical care, organisational, and training challenges that characterise this specific area of care.
The event aims to explore several key areas, including:
- Transitional care management: A fundamental aspect will be the discussion of best practices to ensure a smooth and effective transition from paediatric to adult care for patients with Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMDs).
- Management of adult patients: Specific challenges related to the management of adult patients with IMDs will be explored in depth, including topics such as pregnancy and complications associated with ageing.
- Update on adult metabolic care: The course will offer an update on new challenges and approaches in adult metabolic medicine, with a particular focus on the use of innovative technologies.
The meeting is designed for a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including medical doctors, biologists, dieticians, and pharmacists. Attending this meeting will provide a strong foundation for improving the quality of care for adult patients with IMDs, with a focus on clinical documentation and care pathways.
Additionally, the meeting will discuss how artificial intelligence and advanced medical devices can transform the processes of diagnosing, monitoring, and treating IMDs. This approach aims to enhance the skills of specialists by equipping them with the necessary tools and strategies to address key challenges effectively and knowledgeably.
