Use of information systems provided by the European Commission to support the work of the ERNs
According to the letter sent to all the ERN Coordinators by Andrzej Rys (Director responsible for health systems, medical products and innovation Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, European Commission), we would like to draw your attention to the difference between the purposes behind the two primary information systems provided for use by the European Reference Networks.
The ERN Collaborative Platform and WebEx is provided to assist ERNs with organisational and administrative aspects. The WebEx video tool is accessible by anyone who obtains the link necessary to join the meeting.
The Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS) with an integrated video consultation tool is available for the ERNs to discuss patient cases. This is a secure tool designed with several layers of privacy and access is only possible with two-factor authentication. Only Panel Members or Guests invited to a video consultation within the CPMS can access the video meeting for a particular session.
It should be noted that in the event that the European Commission becomes aware that WebEx is used to discuss patient cases, a breach of data privacy rules would have to be reported.
The CPMS video consultation can be used for that purpose. In that regard, please consult the chapter 9 from the CPMS user guide, which explains how to create a multi-disciplinary meeting for multiple patients.
