Prof Stefan Kölker
Prof. Dr. Stefan KÖLKER, MD, Pediatrician with certified qualifications in Pediatric Metabolic Medicine and Pediatric Neurology, is Head of the Division of Pediatric Neurology and Metabolic Medicine. He graduated in Medicine at the University of Marburg, Germany, and qualified in Pediatrics at the University Hospitals in Marburg and Heidelberg, Germany. He received postdoctoral lecture qualification focusing on the pathomechanism of organic acidurias and was appointed Professor of Translational Metabolic Medicine and Pediatric Neurology at the University of Heidelberg. He is coordinator of multi-centre studies on organic acidurias and urea cycle disorders, chairman of an international guideline developmental group (glutaric aciduria type I), organizer and teacher at the European courses for trainees in Pediatric Metabolic Medicine. He is coordinator of the EU (Chafea)-funded project E-IMD. With his team he manages national and international patient registries (e.g. E-IMD, E-HOD, iNTD) and postmarketing authorization studies for orphan drugs in public private partnership between scientific consortia and industry. He is vice-coordinator and subnetwork coordinator (amino and organic acid-related disorders) of MetabERN. In addition to his clinical expertise, he has a long-standing experience in basic and translational research focusing on intoxication-type IMDs. He has published about 150 original peer-reviewed articles and numerous book chapters and reviews.
